The goal of the brief was to create a space with organic intention. The design invites one to experience 'Ukiyo'—a state of complete presence and mindfulness. With this concept in mind, our client was open to developing a Modern Japandi interior that seamlessly balances functionality and sustainability.

Working within the client's specified brief, the design reconfigured a two-bedroom basement flat into an open-plan layout featuring a master bedroom with an en-suite while maintaining a confined kitchen area.

    This kitchen design features a harmonious blend of natural materials and warm lighting, creating a cozy yet functional space. The textured wood cabinetry contrasts with the calacatta apuano hammered ceramic stone countertops and backsplash, enhancing the organic aesthetic.

    A sleek induction cooktop is centrally positioned, complemented by a stainless steel oven below. Thoughtful details, such as the hanging utensil rack and integrated lighting, contribute to a practical and well-organized workspace.

    The muted color palette and carefully selected textures reflect a modern yet timeless approach to kitchen design.

    This bathroom design embraces a warm, earthy aesthetic with textured stone surfaces that create a natural, spa-like atmosphere. The shower area features recessed shelving for seamless storage, complemented by sleek, modern fixtures in brushed metal.

    The vanity area is accentuated by a uniquely shaped, backlit mirror framed in wood, enhancing the ambient lighting. Pendant lights add a soft, inviting glow, reinforcing the organic and contemporary balance of the space. The cohesive material palette and subtle design details reflect a refined yet calming retreat.

    Inspired by the Japanese concept of "Ukiyo," the Shoji partition wall serves as a subtle divider between the kitchen and master bedroom. While the client sought to separate these spaces, the design also prioritizes the circulation of light within the basement flat. Crafted from traditional Japanese paper, the Shoji wall allows soft, diffused light to pass through, creating a harmonious balance between privacy and openness.
